Srinagar: Former CM and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that Mehbooba Mufti’s government had brought nothing but misery to Kashmir. Addressing a joint convention of NC and Congress workers at the NC’s head office in Pulwama, Omar said that the NC and Congress had come together only to thwart the nefarious designs of the PDP-BJP alliance which is working under an elaborate plan crafted by the RSS to fragment and weaken the state from within.
The event was also addressed by senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad. PCC chief and candidate of the NC-Cong alliance in Anantnag, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, addressed the gathering and so did Tariq Hameed Karra, Taj Mohiuddin, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Usman Majid, GN Ratanpuri, Showkat Ganai, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi, and NC’s district president Pulwama Ghulam Mohuiddin Mir (Murran).
“Yesterday, prime minister Modi called chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and asked her if she needed any assistance in dealing with the flood-like situation in the state. This is another opportunity where Mehbooba Mufti failed to speak up for the 2014 flood victims who are still awaiting relief and rehabilitation from this PDP-BJP government. When the previous NC-Congress government proposed a Rs 44,000-crore relief package to the central government, it was this very PDP that said the amount of the package was not enough and that it would propose a better, bigger package. Till today we haven’t seen any sign of a relief and rehabilitation package from New Delhi and all Mehbooba Mufti is focused on is heaping praise on the prime minister and the BJP,” Omar said.
He lashed out at the PDP-BJP government for supervising the mass arrests, harassment and humiliation of youth across the Valley ever since it came to power. “Mehbooba Mufti not only watched in silence as our youth were blinded, maimed and gunned down but she stooped to the depths of shamelessness by ridiculing and mocking bereaved families by asking them if their dead children had gone to ‘buy milk and toffees’,” Omar said.
“This alliance has failed on all fronts – be it the failure of its hyped ‘agenda of the alliance’, or governance. Every single promise made by the PDP-BJP government has proven to be hollow. The youth of Kashmir have been fooled by the PDP and have been abandoned in a storm that has consumed their lives and devastated their future,” Omar said.
In a separate statement, National Conference spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu said it was none other than the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who had plunged the state into an era of bloodshed, injustice, and turmoil.
“Irony is that the PDP – in the haste of issuing a baseless statement – forgot that it was Mufti sahab who was the architect of ‘Operation Catch and Kill’, which was used to kill hundreds if not thousands of young men. It was Mufti sahab who was the architect of Operation Tiger, too, and instrumental in perpetrating heinous massacres in Kashmir through Governor Jagmohan, who was appointed to the post at the singular behest of the then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” Mattu said in a statement issued from the party headquarters in Srinagar.
Mattu said that the late Mufti Sayeed was responsible for the massacres in Gaw Kadal, Hawal, Handwara, Bijbehara and Pazipora, as well as for the extension of AFSPA to Jammu and Kashmir. “Under late Mufti sahab’s rule as the Home Minister of India, thousands of young men and women were mowed down like cattle under the Mufti-Jagmohan-RSS partnership. Has Mehbooba Mufti forgotten about those genocides and massacres? Was a murder not a murder when Mufti sahab used to contest from RS Pura and Muzaffarnagar?” the NC spokesperson asked.
“It was none other than PDP and Mufti sahab who institutionalised the Task Force and SOG. While he was talking of disbanding the units in Kashmir, he was simultaneously seeking budgetary allocations for STF and SOG from New Delhi,” Mattu added.
“Whatever little Mufti sahab had left to be done was done by Mehbooba Mufti when she lorded over a heinous, barbaric massacre of young men and women in 2016 and went to the extent of ridiculing the grieving, devastated parents of these young victims. People haven’t forgotten her ‘toffees and milk’ sarcasm that she used to mock bereaved families. National Conference doesn’t need lectures from collaborators, agents and proxy-entities who have sold their conscience to the BJP and the RSS. We will give a befitting response to the PDP-BJP combine on the 9th and the 12th of April”, Mattu said in his statement.
