NEW DELHI: Power Ministry has achieved the milestone of electrifying 13,000 un-electrified villages across India under the under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).
This against a target of providing electricity to 18,452 such settlements that it says will be achieved next year.
In a statement issued by
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited said that 13,000 villages have been electrified as on date and the remaining 4,481 un-electrified will be electrified by May next year.
Adding that the latest data on village electrification is available on ‘GARV’ Mobile App and web portal (https://garv.gov.in/garv2/dashboard/main) where the status of village-wise works sanctioned under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and release of funds to the States for these projects has also been mapped in to monitor progress of works in each village.
In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in his independence day speech that all unelectrified villages (18,452) will be electrified in next 1,000 days i.e. 1 May, 2018.
