Srinagar: Peace cannot be achieved in the subcontinent unless the Kashmir issue is resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Chairman, Sikh Intellectuals Circle, said while addressing a joint press conference of Sikh organisations in Srinagar.
“India is misleading the world community by conducting the elections under the shadow of guns. There can be no peace in the sub-continent until the voice of the Kashmiris is heard and the proper plebiscite is conducted,” Singh said.
Singh appealed the people of Kashmir to boycott the upcoming polls as “a tribute to the martyrs and victims of Indian brutalities in Kashmir”.
“I appeal people of Jammu and Kashmir to boycott the elections because it will be a real tribute to all the victims and the people who fell to the bullets of Indian forces and achieved martyrdom for the sake of freedom of Kashmir,” Singh said.
Calling the circle as the part of Hurriyat, Singh said that the decision taken by Hurriyat is grounded on reality and appealed people in both constituencies.
“We are the part of Hurriyat and people should follow what Hurriyat has decided. We appeal to the people in both the constituencies, especially Sikh fraternity to boycott the elections completely,” Singh said.
The joint meeting included Sikh Students Federation and Sikh youth of Jammu and Kashmir who condemned the ‘continuous killing and arrests of civilians’.
Singh added that the use of pellets and bullets cannot suppress the “genuine voice of freedom”.
