ANANTNAG: In 2006, when government high school Kullar in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district was upgraded to higher secondary school (HSS), the authorities sanctioned three additional lecture rooms, a multi-purpose laboratory and a computer laboratory to the educational institute. However ten years later, the structures are still awaiting completion as the construction agency abandoned work midway.
The construction work on additional class rooms (ACRs) and a computer laboratory was started in 2007 while as the building for the multi-purpose laboratory was sanctioned in 2005.
A teaching official posted in the school said that the contractors whom the Roads and Buildings department had allotted contracts abandoned the buildings. “While the ACRs and computer laboratory were abandoned without fixing window panes and completing plaster work, multi-purpose laboratory was left without roof toping and fixing window panes,” the official told Kashmir Reader.
The heads of the institute from time to time brought the matter into the notice of the higher-ups but no to no avail.
“We don’t remember how many times the authorities were informed about these buildings but nothing happened,” said a teacher posted in the school.
“It makes mockery of the official announcements sanctioning construction of ACRs and computer laboratory. If they had no funds for the construction of these small structures they should not have made the announcements at first place,” a group of students told Kashmir Reader.
Executive engineer, R&B division Khanabal, Muhammad Ayoub admitted that the buildings were incomplete for last nine years but assured that the work on both the structures will be restarted soon.
“It is true we have three ACRs and one computer laboratory awaiting completion. I assure that work on both the structures will be started soon and by June we will hand-over them to the education department,”Ayoub said.
