Rather is on death row in Kolkata jail

Kulgam: AIP leader, Engineer Rashid Wednesday visited the family of Muzafar Ahmed Rather in Khiee Jogipora Kulgam, who was awarded death sentence by a Kolkata court, earlier this year.
“Engineer Rashid visited us late in the afternoon without any prior information and expressed his solidarity. He said he will do everything possible to help our family in seeking justice though he did not say what sort of help he will be providing,” a relative of Rather said. Earlier, Rashid held a roadside press conference at Uranhall Batengoo area of Anantnag district.
He said his party was not boycotting the elections but simply not participating. “We are not boycotting the elections but we have decided of non participation this time. The Indian government has been misusing these elections at world forums but elections have nothing to do with the Kashmir issue. Hurriyat should refrain from giving a boycott call because people are participating in the elections for getting proper basic amenities like Sadak, Bijli and Paani or Hurriyat should devise such an effective boycott movement which can bring India to its knees,” said Rashid. Rashid also said that Farooq Abdullah cannot be trusted for his statement on stone pelting youth as he keeps on changing statements with time and place.
“A person like Farooq Abdullah cannot be trusted for whatever he says as he changes his statements with time. He gives a particular statement in Delhi and talks opposite of that very same thing in the Valley. There is no terrorism in the valley but the state terrorism does exist here which is being committed by the police and the Indian armed forces. The recent statement of US’s UN ambassador should hold as an eye opener for the Indian government and they should realize that world has understood the need of solving Kashmir dispute”, Rashid added. The US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley this week said that the Trump administration would try and “find its place” in efforts to de-escalate Indo-Pak tension.
Rashid said that the ultimate goal of different people seeking the resolution of Kashmir dispute is the plebiscite.
“I have my own ways of seeking Azadi and Hurriyat has a different way. Different individuals may be fighting on several fronts for the resolution of Kashmir issue but our destination is same which is the plebiscite. I hold high regard for Hurriyat and we are in no way enemies of each other,” Rashid said.
