Lineman electrocuted while repairing transformer

Handwara: Another lineman working with the power development department was electrocuted in Malpora area of Baramulla on Wednesday.
Tahir Ahmad Malik, 45, son of Abdul Rehman Malik of Namblan village of Narvaw area in Baramulla was repairing an electric transformer at Malpora village when he touched a live electric wire, apparently without taking precautions. He received serious burn injuries during the severe electric shock and both of his hands and a leg was hit. The local people of the area shifted the injured lineman to district hospital Baramulla. He was later shifted to Srinagar for further treatment. Soon after the accident, a large number of people including the family members of Malik took to the streets and staged a protest demonstration against the department. They alleged that the department was playing with the lives of linemen across the Valley. Last month a labourer died and another was severely injured when they were hit by sudden power shock during repairs of a high tension wire in Budshah Chowk of civil lines area in capital Srinagar.
