SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday expressed shock over the fire incident in Awoora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and demanded probe into it.
At least 35 shops, four residential houses and a J&K Bank were gutted in the incident on late Monday night.
“Locals want to know the cause of fire,” Geelani said and termed the incident as “mysterious”. He said many agencies are active in border area and their intention to destroy the economy in the area.
Expressing sympathy with the families whose houses and business establishment were gutted, Geelani said, “People raising questions and want to know the cause of the fire. There are so many queries that need explanation from concern quarters as why the forces cordoned off the said area without any reason and why fire-fighting tenders were stopped,” he said.
“Whatever people say is not pointless; their resentment is vindicated till they get satisfactory explanation from the concern quarters. There are numerous evidences that various secretive means are being employed to create harassment and scare among people. These ill and evil designs are used to cripple our economy,” Geelani said.
