Srinagar: Throwing its weight behind pro-freedom camp against the boycott of upcoming parliamentary by polls, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA) on Wednesday urged people to observe complete shutdown on polling days.
Reiterating that the only solution to “Kashmir problem” is holding a plebiscite in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the HCBA said holding of Assembly or parliamentary elections in the state cannot substitute for plebiscite as has been guaranteed by the UN Security Council Resolutions dated March 30, 1951.
“The only solution to the Kashmir problem is the holding of plebiscite in the State under the auspices of United Nations and for that purpose India and Pakistan should pull back their forces from the State so that the plebiscite is held in a fair and impartial manner,” HCBA general secretary Bashir Sidiq said.
Supporting the joint resistance leadership’s call to boycott the by polls, scheduled on April 9 and 12, in Srinagar and Anantnag constituencies respectively, the HCBA added any participation of people in any election, is later “misrepresented”. “The world community is misled by making them believe that the people having participated in the elections as an endorsement to Indian claim on Kashmir,” he said.
