Srinagar: Shopkeepers pulled down their shutters on Wednesday in Murran Chowk area of Pulwama town in south Kashmir after scores of people hit the streets against the arrest of a youth in nocturnal raid.
Local sources said that Jahangir Ahmad Malik of Dalipora Pulwama was arrested by police in a night raid.
Locals demanding release of Jahangir took to streets and raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans pelted stones on forces at Murran Chowk causing chaos.
Protesters alleged that police have arrested dozens of youth ahead of by-elections scheduled on April 12.
Meanwhile, SSP Puwlama Mohammad Rayees Bhat told Kashmir Reader that 12 more youths have been arrested in the south Kashmir district. SSP said that the said youth are involved in stone pelting cases.
