ANANTNAG: Hours after a video of PDP election rally, in which some Ananganwadi workers are claiming they were directed by higher officials to attend the rally, went viral, Congress threatened to withdraw its nomination from the Anantnag parliamentary seat if the Election Commission of India (ECI) fails to take action into matter.
“We had already expressed our apprehensions that PDP will use state machinery to win the polls. Our apprehensions have proved right today after the video in which Anaganwadi workers are openly claiming that they were directed to attend the rally went viral. This is the grave violation of code of conduct. If ECI does not look into the matter seriously and fails to take action we will be forced to withdraw our nomination,” Congress leader Taj Mohiudin told reporters at Khanabal.
The rally organised by PDP in Dooru was also attended and addressed by chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Taj said they have lodged a complaint with ECI regarding the issue.
Acting on the complaint, chief election officer Anantnag Syed Abid issued a notice to program officer ICDS asking him to reply by Wednesday afternoon
