SRINAGAR: Parts of Kashmir valley in the higher reaches received light snowfall on Wednesday while the rest, including the plains were lashed by rains.
Few areas in the upper reaches of the Valley, including Gurez, Razdan Pass, Sadhna Top, Affarwat, and Amarnath Cave received fresh light snowfall today, a MeT official said.
According to officials, Srinagar city recorded 13.3mm of rainfall, Pahalgam recorded 14.1mm, Qazigund 14mm, Kukarnag 14.8mm, Gulmarg 24.2mm, Kupwara 12.2mm of rainfall. According to an advisory issued by the Additional Commissioner Kashmir, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to continue till April 06 in the Kashmir division.
The advisory further said that there is possibility of landslides and snow avalanches at vulnerable areas of Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh highways on April 5 and 6.
While the farmers have been advised to postpone their farm management practices, like spraying of orchards and application of fertilizers, the intending passengers have been told to contact their respective traffic control rooms before embarking on their journeys.
The concerned Deputy Commissioners have been asked to take all the precautionary measures in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
