Sopore: Lateef Ahmad Kaloo, 45, missed his prostate surgery scheduled at SKIMS on Saturday as he continues to be imprisoned under PSA (Public Safety Act) in Kot Balwal jail in Jammu. A previous PSA case against him was quashed in December but he was arrested again on March 18, even though the police were well aware of his illness. He was sent to Kot Balwal jail on March 24.
His wife, Gulshana, said that since he was sent to Jammu, she had not met him or had any communication with him. “I don’t know anything of what his present condition is. I have three small kids, I can’t leave them alone to go meet my husband. Also, our financial condition is bad,” Gulshana told Kashmir Reader.
“The Doctor at SKIMS said he needed to be operated on within a few days. But what can I do? I cannot visit the police stations again and again. I will show his test reports to the court, so that he may be released for treatment of his prostate disease, which is spreading fast as the tests show,” Gulshana said.
When contacted, the Superintendent of Police Sopore Harmeet Singh said that the jail authorities are supposed to look after the health of the inmates and Lateef’s family can show his test reports to the jail authorities in Jammu.
