SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Saturday led the funeral prayers of a neighbor at his own residence while under house arrest.
A spokesman of the conglomerate in a statement issued here said since Geelani was under house arrest, he couldn’t visit the bereaved family of Miya Bashir Ahmad whose wife had passed away.
He said the grieved family expressed its desire that Geelani should lead the funeral prayers after which the prayers were held at Hurriyat chairman’s residence where he also addressed the mourners.
Geelani in his address reminded people of the duties of faithful Muslims saying, “As we belong to oppressed nation, hence each and every soul must perform his assigned duties and resist the tyrannical forces with available means.”
Quoting verses from the Holy Qur’an, Geelani said we will be asked that when innocents were massacred, blinded, and properties ransacked, why didn’t you feel the responsibility to raise voice. “On the day of resurrection, the people will reply that they were weak, scared and couldn’t find any way out to help oppressed and oppose the tyrannical forces. They will be asked that the Lord’s land was vast enough to live in and that they had an option to leave the territory. We must either fight the tyrannical forces with available source or leave the place,” he said.
“In present circumstance, it is impossible to migrate as there are compulsions but no lame excuse should be provided for maintaining silence. We need to exhibit determination, commitment and resolve to achieve the sacred goal,” he said.
“Let us pledge that we won’t budge before these forces and will pursue our mission with zeal and commitment,” Geelani added.
