Puts activities on hold
JAMMU: The Election Commission of India has taken serious note of an advertisement issued by the State Sports Council in “violation” of the model code of conduct and ordered to put on hold he activities mentioned in the advertisement.
Published in some local newspapers on Friday the advertisement issued by J&K State Sports Council had announced an initiative to “provide recognition and support to sports teams from each and every village /ward of J&K state”.
Inviting for registrations of sports teams, it promised benefits like free sports kits and uniforms, access to world class coaching programs, and chances to participate in top level sports tournaments.
Taking serious note of the advertisement, the ECI called for putting all the activities highlighted on hold in view of the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
“The ECI has taken a serious note of the advertisement issued by the State Sports Council in violation of the Model Code of Conduct and has called for putting all the activities mentioned in the said advertisement by JKSSC on hold,”Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Shantmanu said.
He said ECI has also called for sensitizing the media about the prohibition on publishing of such official advertisements which violate the MCC.
