Srinagar: The participation in Indian elections means disregarding the sacred sacrifices rendered by the martyrs. This was stated by the jailed chairman of JKLF Mohammad Yasin Malik while recalling the struggle and sacrifices rendered by Kashmiri resistance leader Ashfaq Majeed Wani.
“Ashfaq Majeed Wani was a born leader and the days and years of his life from September 6, 1966 to March 30, 1990 are a shining mark of his greatness,” Malik said in a statement.
He said Wani was a symbol of courage, fearlessness, piety, passion and resistance against illegal occupation and injustice. Yasin Malik said that torture cells, jails and other methods of oppression were not able to deter him from his path and he stood firm in the way of freedom movement till his martyrdom. He said that people who think that people’s revolution in 1990 was only an outcome of some election rigging are mistaken. In fact the struggle for freedom led by Ashfaq Majeed Wani was not the outcome of any election error only but it was an ongoing process which was speeded up by Shaheed father of Kashmiri nation Muhammad Maqbool Butt‘s martyrdom in 1984.
While paying tributes to Shabir Ahmad Sidiqi and other Hazratbal martyrs, Malik said Sidiqi was a religious scholar and a man of wisdom who strived and sacrificed his life for the freedom of Kashmir.
