Srinagar: Police on Wednesday foiled Awami Itiihad Party’s proposed gharao march to chief minister’s residence at Gupkar Road and protestors who tried to assemble were dispersed by police and were not allowed to assemble near Gupkar, a party statement said.
However breaking strict police restrictions dozens of protestors, lead by AIP supremo and MLA Langate, Er Rasheed started March from party office Jawahar Nagar towards Gupkar, the statement said.
Carrying placards in their hands, protesters were chanting slogans against “state terrorism” and killing of three innocents at Chadoora.
After travelling some distance, heavy contingent of police led by SP South stopped the protestors, the statement said.
As per the statement police thrashed and dragged many including Rasheed. “Many protestors including Rasheed, party spokesman Inam-un-Nabi, District President Kulgam Dr Bari Nayak and activist Syed Aijaz Kashani were arrested and detained in police station Rajbagh,” the statement added.
