JAMMU: Department of Agriculture Monday organized two days training programme on Post Harvest Technology/Preservation of fruits & vegetables at Krishi Bhawan. More than 100 farmers including 50 farm women participated in the programme organized under Sub-Mission on Agriculture Extension (SAME).
Joint Director, Agriculture (Extension) H K Razdan while addressing the participants said that through simple processes the shelf life of vegetables, fruits and mushrooms can be increased to reduce wastage and to facilitate their marketing and use during off season. He further said that a variety of products like jam, jelly, pickles, chutney, squash, and candies can be made from vegetable and fruits to increase the farm income.
Earlier, Subject Matter Specialist (RL) Surinder Misri highlighted the objectives of the training programme.
Resource persons including SMS (DL), Udhampur R K Thaploo, Expert from SKUAST-J Dr Julie Bandral, Om Parkash Sharma and Ravi Raman Raina deliberated upon various topics on preservation and post harvest management, use of organic manure, Vermi-compost making, promotion of organic farming, making of pickles/candies/jams and how to form self help groups.
