Srinagar: Police and forces resorted to tear smoke shelling to disperse hundreds of protesters who pelted stones on police station at Yaripora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.
Soon after the news that a local militant Touseef Ahmad Wagay S/O Ghulam Qadir Wagay, has been killed in an encounter with government forces in Chadoora reached the area, protesters hit the streets.
Local sources said that people marched towards the police station for demanding the dead body. They said that raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters resorted to stone pelting on the police station which was retaliated with massive tear gas and stun grenade shelling.
According to locals Touseef, the militant who was killed in Chadoora encounter was a resident of Kanjikulla, village of Yaripora area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
They said that Touseef had joined militant ranks soon after the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani, last year.
Earlier, Touseef was released after spending one and a half years in different jails under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA)
