SRINAGAR: Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) under Project AXSHYA in collaboration with District Tuberculosis Center (DTC) Budgam on Sunday organised World TB Day 2017 with a theme ‘Unite to end TB’.
As per a statement issued here, the programme was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Budgam Mir Altaf, State TB Officer Kashmir Dr Showkat Ahmad Laloo, Chief Medical Officer Budgam Dr GM Dar, Dr Tasneeem WHO Consultant, students, various stakeholders and NGO partners of AXSHA Project. On the eve of the World Tuberculosis Day, RNTCP Staff, Students, NGO partners, and citizens of the civil society, gathered at District TB CentreBudgamto vigil to candle light march.
The participants, who lit candles at the site, lend their complete support to achieve “India’s goal to eliminate TB by 2025”. “We stand with every TB patient for the trauma and stigma he or she has had to face. This show of strength and solidarity today is a sign of our concerted efforts to fight and end TB in India,” they said. District TB Officer Budgam Dr AdfarYaseen highlighted the work done by DTC Budgam besides the facilities available which include CB NAAT test facility free of cost.
“World TB Day is an opportunity for people everywhere to join this fight by helping to educate others about TB and by urging governments to take action. We believe that together we can end TB once and for all,” the statement said.
“This year’s campaign runs under the strong and action-oriented tagline ‘Unite to end TB’. Partners working in TB from all over the globe chose this dynamic and unifying rallying cry that allows for both strong mobilisation on the ground and high level advocacy. This campaign draws on the goals set out in the global plan to end TB,” the statement added.
