Legal literacy program held in Pampore

SRINAGAR: In order to sensitise students regarding importance of legal knowledge, a day-long seminar on ‘Legal Literacy and Careers Ahead’ was organised by the Debate and Seminar Committee in collaboration with Career Counselling Cell of the college at Govt Degree College Pampore. As per a statement issued here, Principal Prof Dr Syed Mumtaz Ali in his address welcomed the guest speakers Advocate Muhammad Ashraf Wani and Advocate Syed Nadeem Qadri, and highlighted the importance and relevance of legal knowledge. He voiced that only law-knowing and law-abiding can guarantee a peaceful society.
In her keynote address, Prof Mehbooba Bano, Head, Deptt of Political Science, delineated the aims and objectives of the program. Noted environment lawyer and activist Qadri in his presentation deliberated upon various careers and job avenues available in the field of law.
Prominent lawyer and social activist Muhammad Ashraf Wani talked about various nuances of knowing, practicing and working on Right to Information Act (RTI). He advised students to use RTI as an instrument for bringing transparency in the system. Vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Dr Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Head Department of Urdu.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by convener of the Debate and Seminar Committee Prof. Laila Khalid who also moderated the question answer session of students and experts after the technical session.
