SRINAGAR: Ahead of by polls for Anantnag parliamentary seat, arrest spree in various areas of south Kashmir continues with police rounding up 18 more youth in Shopian and Pulwama districts.
In Mitrigam area of Pulwama, local residents said, police raided several homes during night and arrested at least a dozen youth who, a police official told Kashmir Reader, were involved in stone throwing protests.
The number of youth arrested in these districts during the past couple of weeks has risen to 114. The arrested youth are lodged in various police stations of the district.
In neighboring Shopian district, police picked up at least six youth from Imam Sahab area of the district during night raids.
A few days ago, police had arrested at least 13 youths from Meemandar and Harmain villages of the district during night raids.
Police said the arrested youths were involved in “stone throwing and spreading rumours on social networking sites”.
