SRINAGAR: The PDP’s former Member of Parliament and now Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra on Friday appealed to the people of Kashmir to unite against the RSS-BJP which has been given a passage into the Valley by its partner, the PDP.
“We have to defeat anti-Muslim and anti-Article 370 forces collectively,” Karra said while addressing a joint election meeting of the National Conference and the Congress at Shivpora here this afternoon.
Karra said that the Sangh Parivar has been conspiring for the past nearly seven decades to repeal Article 370 but the stiff resistance of Kashmiri people has always made it bite the dust. “Now they are day-dreaming of accomplishing their nefarious agenda by aligning with the PDP,” he said.
The former MP called upon people to maintain Kashmir’s time-tested unity of Muslim, Hindu and Sikh.
The election rally was also addressed by NC’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, provincial president of the NC’s women’s wing, Shameema Firdous, district president Peer Afaq Ahmed, and provincial secretary Showkat Ahmed Mir.
The speakers recalled the atrocities committed upon people in 2016 and said that more than 100 youth were killed and 16,000 injured across the Valley in a few months. They spoke of the blinding of thousands of youth and blamed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for it.
The NC leaders questioned the claims of the PDP and asked as to what had happened to the party’s commitment of repealing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, of relief to flood victims, and of jobs to unemployed educated youth.
