ANANTNAG: Going against his party stand to boycott parliamentary polls, Awami Itihad Party (AIP) leader and social activist, Sajad Noorabadi on Friday filed his nomination papers for Anantnag parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
Noorabadi after filing the nomination papers at Anantnag told reporters that his decision to contest the polls was aimed at giving fight to the political thugs who have destroyed the social fabric of the state for over decades.
Accusing the party chief, Er Rasheed of failing the people, Noorabadi said, “Er Rashid is claiming to be the real representative of the aspirations of people in the mainstream camp. People are fed up with both NC and PDP this time and were looking for some alternative. The AIP was the best alternative but by staying away from the elections he has failed the people,” he said.
He, however, added that he has not deserted the party and will continue to be the part of it as long as it exists.
“I have not left the party but have conveyed my concerns and decision to the party leadership about my contesting polls as an independent candidate. It is up to the party leadership now what it is going to do with me,” Noorabadi told reporters.
