Relatives blame husband, in-laws
TRAL: The family members of a woman who died last week at her in-laws house held protests at Ponzu village of Tral in south Kashmir. They alleged that the woman’s in-laws were responsible for her mysterious death.
The woman Shagufta (29) was married to Sajad Ahmad Lone, a resident of Chan-kitar village since 2011 and had a son from the marriage . She died on March 15. Brother of the deceased woman John Muhammad Beigh said, “We suspect the hand of her in-laws in her death as the relation between the couple was strained for a long time,” Beigh told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the night her sister died her in-laws called him and told him to reach Awantipora as Shugufta had suddenly fallen ill.
“After I reached Awantipora and called them they told me that they have reached Pampore. But after reaching Pampore they told me that they have reached back to their home. This created suspicion and we rushed to Chan village where we came to know that she was dead,” Beigh said.
He said that her sister had some bruises on face which suggests that she might have been beaten up.
Family members of the woman lodged complaint with police station seeking investigation into the matter.
A police officer said that father of Shagufta came to police station with a complaint. “The body would be exhumed in coming days for which a team has been constituted. After exhumation post mortem will be conducted on her body,” police official said.
He added that they have started investigations under 174 CRPC into the matter.
Sources said that the Lone family used intermediaries to convince the Beigh family against raising the issue with the police. “We want the mater to be investigated and justice delivered to us,” Shugufta’s father Rafiq Ahmad Beigh told Kashmir Reader.
