KUPWARA: Teachers working under Saakashar Bharat Mission (SBM) working as teachers in various government run schools in Kupwara district today protested against authorities for a recent order to wind up SBM across the state barring Samba and Jammu districts. The protestors raised slogans against Joint Director Education in front of DC office Kupwara for issuing the order.
“We have been working round the clock against peanuts (Rs 2000 per month). We are wageless for past three years as authorities continue to delay release of our salaries. To make the matters worse, the joint director education yesterday issued order to wind up the SBM,” said Rashid Ahmad district president SBM members. “Many teachers have already crossed the age limit for government jobs and are facing starvation like conditions. We will be forced to take extreme steps if the authorities did not take back its recent order,” he added.
There are at least 750 members working as teachers in Kupwara district for past over five years.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ghulam Mohammad Dar said he was not aware of the directive. “Will look into it,” Dar said.
