Baramulla: On the world water day, the scarcity of drinking water is haunting several villages in Rajwar pocket of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Residents of Bhat Mohalla and Wani Mohalla of Ahgam Rajwar are struggling for drinking water facility for the past three decades but the government has only served them promises.
In 2015, a new water pipeline was sectioned to cater to these inhabitations but it was not installed.
According to locals they struggled hard for the past 30 years to get water pipeline close to their habitations.
The residents said that the sanctioned pipeline has been stalled because some political activists close to the local legislator want to turn it into a political affair for claiming credit. They said that the scheme has been approved due to the consistent campaign by the local residents. They said that the work must be immediately started on the proposed water supply scheme or the people would be compelled to approach the State Human Rights Commission for intervention.
