Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday called senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig “an opportunist” and his remarks accusing resistance leaders of “enjoying luxuries” as “outcome of frustration”.
Baig had on Monday told a party gathering that Hurriyat leaders were pushing youth into violence while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle themselves.
Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said Baig should “realize the fact that pellets, bullets and Public Safety Act now symbolize their treacherous politics”.
“His political credentials are mysterious and his assertions about pro-freedom camp are baseless,” Akbar said.
“They want to save their skin and cover their criminal record. His statement is a failed attempt to divert attention from their treacherous politics,” he added.r
Calling Baig an “opportunist”, the Hurriyat spokesman said people and leaders associated with the freedom movement remain in jails most of the time and “people like Muzaffar Baig change their colours each passing day”.
“For their self-interests they change like weather and in turn shower blessings on Jan Sangh or for petty gains count on blame game against freedom camp,” Akbar said in a statement.
“You have detained and slapped PSA against thousands, and it is ridiculous to give hype to your so called battle of Ideas,” he said, adding, “sending political leaders to Ranchi, Hazari Bagh, Tihar jails and issuing notices from NIA and income tax department on false grounds is special treatment in the PDP leader’s vocabulary”.
