KANGAN: Students from many higher secondary schools in Kangan say they are forced to choose Arts stream in the absence of Commerce stream at higher secondary school level.
They have complained that the government has failed to fulfill its promise of introducing commerce stream in most of the Higher Secondary Schools in Kangan.
A delegation of students from Government Boys Higher Secondary School Kangan told Kashmir Reader that the school has been upgraded from to higher secondary school 30 years back, but till date Commerce subject has not been introduced in it.
The other higher secondary schools in Kangan area without commerce stream includes Gund, Ganiwan and Girls Higher Secondary Kangan.
“In spite of arranging commerce stream in our local schools, we are being forced to get admission in other schools of the district which are miles away from Kangan,” Adnan Ahmad, a 11th class student at GHSS Kangan said.
The students added that last year the education minister himself announced about introduction of commerce stream in Kangan school and students had chosen the stream accordingly, but now the school administration is neither providing admission for 11th class commerce nor are providing commerce staff for 12th class.
Mohd Khaliq Principal GHSS Kangan said that arranging commerce stream in the school was not in his powers.
When contacted, Soni Sanam CEO Ganderbal said,
“The issue has came in my notice and I will look in to the matter.”
