Awantipora: A day after the killing of a 7-year-old girl, Kaneeza in Kupwara during a military operation, dozens of students of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) held a protest on Thursday to demand punishment for her killers.
Students from several departments of the varsity gathered in the campus holding placards that read, “Words won’t hide your actions”, “While your kids play with colours, ours play with blood”, “I am Kashmir, I am Kaneeza”.
“The state should take some serious steps to prevent such incidents and should stop justifying them,” a student protester said.
The students also raised slogans against Kaneeza’s killing and called for “stern and quick action” against her killers.
Kaneeza was killed by a bullet while moving to safety when a gunfight was underway in her village in Kupwara on Wednesday. Kaneeza’s 6-year-old brother Faisal also suffered a bullet injury during the gunfight.
The students of the varsity have launched an online campaign on Twitter under the hash tag ‘#straybullet’ to protest against Kaneeza’s killing.
