SRINAGAR: The Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Wednesday said that a time will come when people of the world will know how the people of Kashmir were killed, maimed and blinded by the Indian armed forces.
Acting on the programme of the joint resistance leadership, lawyers held a protest demonstration in the high court premises and demanded release of all detainees forthwith by respecting orders issued by the courts in their favour.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the lawyers’ body Mian Abdul Qayoom stated that the police is day in and day out disobeying the orders of the courts and despite the quashing of the orders of detention, detainees are not released but are re-detained on flimsy and concocted charges.
He referred to the case of Sarjan Barkati and said that even though his order of detention was quashed by the High Court he was not released and instead was booked in a false and frivolous case and lodged in a police station. He also stated that Mohammad Rustum Bhat and Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf of Sopore, who are more than 70 years of age, have been detained again under Public Safety Act though their orders of detention have been quashed by the court.
He said that Kashmir issue is a political as well as a humanitarian issue and the world community should play role in asking India to concede to their right of self-determination and not to resort to brutal force to suppress their demand.
“Instead of spending huge amount on military and other armaments, the Indian government should use that money on its own people, most of whom are not able to have two time meals,” he said.
