Baramulla: The power development department has approached the local administration in the border town of Uri to help them realize the outstanding power bills against the government departments.
In a formal application submitted to local Tehsildar, the PDD urged the administration to intervene for the collection of pending electricity bills amounting to Rs 1.80 crore. The officials of PDD sub-division Mohra said that State bank of India has an outstanding amount of Rs 40 lacs while the Municipal committee owes Rs 27.50 lacs. The PHE department Uri owes Rs 23.16 lac, custodian office Salambad Rs 13.30 lacs, Government degree college Uri, Rs 5.67 lac, tourist reception centre, Rs 5.55 lac, sub-district hospital Uri 5.50 lac, police station Uri 4.20 lac, SDPO office Uri 1.65 lac, BSNL office Uri, 1.80 lac and police station Kamalkote 1.37 lac. The other departments including educational institutions and ZEO also are the electricity bill defaulters.
Tehsildar Uri Jaffar Hussain confirmed that he received application from PDD. He said he has sent an official letter to the local department heads asking them to clear the outstanding bills or face action in this regard.
