Students protest shortage of teachers

Ganderbal: Students of Government High School, Kullan Gund in Ganderbal district staged a protest demonstration against shortage of teachers on Monday. Boycotting their classes the students raised slogans demanding appointment of teachers in the school on Srinagar-Sonamarg road leading to disruption in traffic on the highway.

The students said that due to the shortage of teaching staff in the school, academic session of students is affected. “We were forced to lodge a protest as despite our repeated pleas for the appointment of teachers especially Science subject no step has been taken so far,” students said.

Reliable sources said that four teachers (Maters grade) and a physical education teacher posts were lying vacant in the school.

“On one hand government has been making claims of better facilities and highly qualified teachers in the government schools while on the other hand due to shortage of required subject teachers, adequate infrastructure and other facilities in the government schools, people prefer to send their children to private institutions,” said Parvaiz Ahmad Sheikh a social worker of Kullan.

“We appeal the education department to look into the matter and take immediate measures,” a protesting student said. Students threatened to launch massive protest against the district administration and education department if their problem was not addressed within two days.
