Srinagar: A subordinate court awarded seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to a person who attempted to rape a 3-year-old girl in Srinagar more than four years ago.
The court of second Additional session’s judge Sham Lal Lalhaal pronounced the judgment against Mohammad Yasin Beig, a resident of Hardomadam village in Tangmarg who attempted to outrage the modesty of a minor girl on December 24, 2012. The accused has already spent four years and two and half months in central jail Srinagar for the commission of the crime.
The court had convicted Beigh on March 8, which was followed by announcing the quantum of sentence.
As per the case details, father of the victim, a labourer hailing from
Nowgam Banihal in Ramban district, staying then at Alochi Bagh Srinagar along with his family, filed a complaint with police station Batamaloo that the accused had committed rape on his daughter after taking her from the family’s rented room to his room on the pretext of giving sweets to her.
According to the police investigation, the accused was trying to commit rape but when the child cried her mother came down and saw her daughter weeping helplessly. On seeing this she was terrified and she called her husband on phone.
According to the testimony of girl’s mother, when she rushed downstairs after hearing the cries of her child at about 3pm, she found her daughter weeping helplessly, her clothes taken off, while the accused had also downed his trousers. After the FIR was registered, the victim was taken to JVC hospital where doctors found the hymen red and the child was not allowing anyone to touch. In all eight witnesses were examined in the case.
