Srinagar: Authorities on Friday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest ahead of congregational prayers.
Media advisor to Mirwaiz, advocate Shahid ul Islam told Kashmir Reader that Mirwaiz was detained at his Nigeen residence early today.
He added that Mirwaiz was scheduled to lead a protest March at Nowhatta after Friday prayers.
Pro-freedom leaders have called for a shutdown and protest today.
Pertinently, authorities detained almost all the frontline pro-freedom leaders Thursday evening. They include Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Zafar Bhat etc.
Hurriyat Confernce (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani is continuously undergoing house detention for a long now.
