Ganderbal: As fresh rains and snow bring down temperatures across the valley, government and private schools are operating without any heating arrangements in Ganderbal. Students from various schools in center in Ganderbal complained of non-availability of heating arrangements.
Students are not able to focus on lessons as they shiver in classrooms, the fate of teachers is no different.
“We do not mind going to the school in severe winter, but despite wearing many clothes, we keep shivering inside the classroom due to which we cannot concentrate on our studies,” said Tabasum Ashraf a student of Class XI of a government school.
“We do not have any heating arrangement in our school. It becomes very difficult to sit inside the classroom for long hours,” she said. Many schools are also witnessing thin attendance because of severe cold.
“We had to tell our students to wear pherans because it is extremely cold. Sometimes students get Kangri from home and share it with the class. We never get heating arrangements,” said a teacher at a middle school of Gund Tehsil Parents of some kids expressed resentment that children were left shivering in classrooms while the administration was not taking any steps to keep the heating facilities available in classrooms.
“My child dressed up early in the morning Wednesday to attend school, but when he came back home in the afternoon he had red hands and a red nose, indicating the winter chill he had suffered at school,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad.
A group of parents told Kashmir Reader that authorities should ensure heating facilities for students. We appeal the education minister to look into the issue personally as the students are suffering, patents said.
Director School Education could not be contacted despite repeated efforts.
