Srinagar: Kashmir received fresh snowfall in upper reaches while rains lashed plains on Tuesday bringing dip in temperature.
Srinagar received rainfall in the afternoon while reports of fresh snowfall was received from upper reaches of north Kashmir including Gulmarg, Shopian in south Kashmir and upper reaches of Banihal, Jawahar Tunnel, Ramban and Patnitop areas.
The 300-km Srinagar-Jammu highway was, however, open for vehicular traffic. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was 4.3 degrees celsius while it was minus 0.8 in Pahalgam and minus 4.0 in Gulmarg, MeT said.
In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district witnessed fresh snowfall since Tuesday afternoon.
Reports said higher reaches of Ganderbal district including famous tourist resort Sonamarg, Gaganigar, Rezan, Kullan, and Gund received fresh snowfall, while the plains received rains.
Officials said that the famous tourist resort of Sonamarg already closed for the winter months recorded 8 inches of fresh snow.
Meanwhile Fresh snowfall has hampered the snow clearing operations undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on the Srinagar-Sonamarg road, an official said.The road is expected to be thrown open for traffic after March 20.
In Jammu, the minimum temperature was 13.6 while it was 12.8 in Katra, 7.2 in Batote, 4.9 in Bannihal and 2.4 in Bhaderwah.
