Hajin: Residents of Syed Mohalah Hajin in Bandipora district staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) on Monday demanding a higher capacity power transformer. The protesters even brought along the faulty transformer and blocked the Hajin Sopore road for almost an hour and later staged a sit-in outside the PDD office Sumbal. A 100 KV transformer presently installed in the village is unable to bear the load and gets frequently damaged, they said while demanding a 250 KV transformer.
The residents had earlier also disconnected the high tension wires passing through their village, leaving villages like Shahgund, Khuserpora, Bon Mohallah under darkness for last two days.
The aggrieved residents said that the transformer was damaged around fifteen times in last three months and authorities were not installing a 250 KV transformer to resolve the problem. “Despite submitting bills on time we are being deprived of electricity from last three months,” one of the residents said. “This is 100 KV transformer for 98 houses so it gets damaged every week” another resident Aijaz Ahmad said The residents said after getting no help despite repeated requests to authorities, “we were forced to disconnect the 11000 HT line for the three villages so that this might caught attention to the concerned authorities.” They also threatened to intensify the protest if the authorities “failed to fulfill our genuine demands”.
