JAMMU: Secretary Horticulture, M H Malik conducted an extensive tour of District Udhampur and inspected government Fruit Plant Nurseries at Badolla, Ramnagar, Garhpomasta (Majalta) and various Orchards of High Density Plantation Of Citrus & Guava at Garnai and Barta being established by the Department in private sector under different schemes.
Several units including Dug wells, Vermi compost units, Poly House structures, Integrated Nutrient Management and Integrated Pest Management activities were also inspected.
Director Horticulture Jammu, Bhawani Rakwal Chief Horticulture Officer Udhampur R. K Koul, District Officers and Horticulture Development Officers accompanied the Secretary during the tour.
During the visit Secretary instructed the Officers and field staff of Horticulture Department to lay stress on production of quality grafted / budded planting material of superior cultivars which enhances per yield production in the Government Fruit Plant Nurseries.
He laid emphasis on implementing all the schemes of Horticulture Department with full zeal and spirit, so that the farmers may avail benefits at their doorsteps. He also directed the concerned to guide the orchardists about Orchard management practices, Pest Control, Canopy Management and other technical operations.
