Srinagar: Two militants who were killed in a 15 hour long gunfight with government forces Sunday at Hafoo, Nazneenpora village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have been identified.
“Two militants killed in the gunfight. One of them was a local Hizb commander, and another a Pakistani national. Unfortunately, we have lost one Jawan of the SOG of JK police,” Director General of Police, S. P. Vaid told reporters at the wreath laying ceremony of a slain SOG men in Srinagar.
According to a local news gathering agency, KNS, one of the slain militants has been identified as Aaqb alias Molvi. Another militant killed in the encounter was a non local.
Aaqib was a resident of Hayuna village in Tral.
SOG man, identified as Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Salamabad, Uri was also killed in the gunfight.
Sources said two policemen and an army major also sustained injuries during the gunfight and they were being treated at army hospital in Srinagar.
Tral area witnessed massive protests and clashes since the encounter started in the area last evening.
