SRINAGAR: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) on Friday slammed police and government for “implicating in false, baseless and fabricated” cases the two youth of Baramulla.
In a statement issued here, DeM chairperson, Syeda Aasiya Andrabi said the duo, Sajad Ahmad Khan and Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Baramulla, were languishing in Baramulla Joint Interrogation Centre for last five months and “the police claiming that they were arrested yesterday is a lie”.
She said both Sajad and Shabir eyewitnessed the killing of a youth Tahir Sofi in March 2013 during a peaceful protest after in Baramulla following the hanging of Afzal Guru. “The duo was followed by police and as a result they were on a run. However, their parents later handed them over to police and they were kept them in Joint Interrogation Centre, Baramulla and were there for last over five months. Now, police has dragged them into false cases and termed them OGWs of Jaish,” she said.
Aasiya said the duo is punished only for being witness to a “cold-blooded” murder of Tahir Sofi.
