SRINAGAR: Terming the Kashmir dispute as a living reality, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said government of India’s attempt to define the Kashmir movement for self-determination under the rubric of terrorism is neither going to stop the people of Kashmir from pursuing their just demand nor help in dealing with the issue at hand.
“All it does is to give the GoI the justification to use excessive force to repress the people of Kashmir and mislead the people of India into believing this propaganda and hence prolonging the crisis,” Mirwaiz said while delivering Friday sermon at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
“Neither stockpiling more pellet guns and other lethal weapons, nor packages, development, enrolling Masjid imams, creating sectarian divide or resurrecting the infamous SOG can make the people give up their basic political demand and bring peace and normalcy in the disputed territory” he said.
Hurriyat (M) chairman said instead of GoI’s looking at ways and means to maintain the status quo and subvert the people’s struggle, it would be in the best interest of all parties involved in the Kashmir issue that all energies and efforts are expanded at the resolution of the dispute in accordance with the people’s wishes and bring stability and prosperity to the region.
Mirwaiz reiterated that “oppressive policy and tactics cannot suppress the people’s right to self-determination and Kashmir’s leadership is committed to represent and support their just struggle for fulfillment of political aspirations”.
Meanwhile, condemning the judicial remand of senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and transferring him to Mattan Kehribal jail after his arrest, a spokesman of the conglomerate said such treatment of Waza, who is suffering from severe ailments, is a “political vendetta”.
