Pattan/Palhallan: The residents of Palhallan village in Baramulla district on Tuesday said they are living under “Gaza-like” conditions.
According to locals, the police and paramilitary forces have launched a hunt to arrest residents of Palhalan. The government forces have established several checkpoints and nakas where passenger vehicles are being searched for residents of Palhalan.
The locals told Kashmir Reader that each passenger vehicle is being checked near SOG camp Pattan and near Hygam, Sopore, and any resident of Palhalan travelling in these vehicles is being detained.
They said the entire area is “under a siege”. Police are searching for Palhalan residents even at Pattan hospital. Two elderly men from the area had reportedly been detained at the hospital where they had gone for a medical examination.
Palhalan, which is around 32 km from Srinagar, is home to more than 14000 people living in more than 2000 households.
Massive incidents of stone pelting have been reported from the area especially for the past 10 days during which the residents had disrupted an anti-militancy operation.
Palhalan is a fiercely pro-independence area. The crackdown is seen a measure to control it, especially in the wake of concerns over people risking their lives to save militants during gunfights.
