SRINAGAR: Islamic Political Party (IPP) on Sunday staged a protest demonstration at press enclave here demanding justice to the victims of Kunan-Poshpora, Handwara, and Shopian tragedies. The protest was led by IPP chairman Mohammad Yousuf Naqash.
“We are also protesting against the unabated oppression in the State and urge the world community to put end to human rights violations in Kashmir,” Naqash said.
He appealed the United Nations to “grant Kashmiris the right to self-determination and provide justice to the rape victims of Kashmir”.
Naqash said the administration has resorted to “highhandedness and has turned the state into a virtual jail where fundamental rights of people are being trampled”.
The placards the protesters were carrying read: ‘Freedom of assembly and expression in Indian occupation Kashmir’, ‘Right to self-determination is our birth right’, ‘Our appeal to United Nations Human Right Council, Save Jammu And Kashmir from Indian Oppression’, Justice for rape victims of Kashmir’. The IPP chairman also demanded release of political prisoners. “Kashmiri political prisoners and local youths languishing in various jails are facing grave problems and despite their release orders they are kept behind bars and not even presented in courts on hearing dates thereby prolonging their detention,” he said.
