Srinagar: Octogenarian pro-freedom leader, Syed Ali Geelani led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) Sunday postponed its party elections for a year and the party directed its incumbent office bearers to work on their positions and posts for the next year.
This according to a party statement was decided during a meeting of the “available members” of the Majlis-e-Shora (Advisory Committee) held at its head office with its chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on chair.
As per the statement to postpone party elections for a year more, the party amended the Article 9 of its constitution.
“A resolution to amend the Article 9 of the party constitution was moved by general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and it was passed by a majority vote,” the statement said.
The statement added that TeH could not hold its party elections in August last due to “unfavourable circumstances for elections”.
“The circumstances have not changed even now so the party elections were postponed for a year,” the party statement said.
Pertinently, TeH is facing a crackdown ever since last year’s uprising and scores of its office bearers and members are behind bars.
Addressing the party office bearers, Geelani said that TeH is not a mere party but a revolution, the statement said.
