SRINAGAR: Calling Kunan-Poshpora mass rape a haunting reality of “Indian oppression” in Jammu and Kashmir, Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yasin Malik said the crime exposes the “farce of Indian democracy”.
“Savagery was exhibited by the Indian army at Kunan-Poshpora and no criminal has been penalized yet exposing the ugly face of Indian democracy in Jammu Kashmir,” Malik said.
According to a party spokesperson, the party leaders and activists today staged a peaceful protest near Budshah chowk in Lal chowk area against Kunan-Poshpora incident.
The protesters displayed placards amid slogans against ‘attacks on women’ and marched towards Lal-chowk and staged a protest sit-in near Budshah chowk.
The JKLF leaders including Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Javed Ahmad Zargar, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Sirajuddin Mir, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Sideeq Shah, Ashraf bin Salam and others participated in the rally and protest sit-in. The JKLF vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and others addressed the rally and sit-in.
“More than two decades have passed but till date no one among those who committed crime at Kunan-Poshpora have been booked or penalized which clarifies the farce of Indian democracy in the state,” Malik said.
“Indians use attacks on the chastity of women as a war-tactic and Kunan-Poshpora was the beginning of this ugly Indian terrorism in Jammu Kashmir,” Malik said.
“Ironically, international community, especially the west are not much bothered about the rights of Kashmiri women and even carry out no lip services to condemn the oppression unleashed by Indian state against them in Jammu Kashmir, which is criminal and highly deplorable,” Malik added.
