Baramulla: Handwara town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district observed shutdown for the second consecutive day on Friday against the government’s “failure” to provide the basic facilities to the people. The shutdown was called by Traders Federation Handwara. All the shops and other business establishments including petrol pumps and private offices remained off while the traffic was plying normally on the roads.
President traders’ federation Handwara Ajaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that they took the step after district administration failed to solve the basic problems of general public of the town. “We approached the newly appointed deputy commissioner Kupwara several times to visit the area and listen to the problems of the common people but he ignored us,” he said.
