Srinagar: Shops and business establishments downed their shutters in Pulwama town of south Kashmir on Saturday after scores of people started protesting against the arrest of a local youth.
The protests were followed by clashes between the government forces and protesters as the later pelted stones on forces at Muran chowk.
Local sources said that Bilal Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Qadir Mir, a resident of Washbugh area of the town was arrested early today.
Soon after the news of his arrest spread, people came on streets and demanded the release of Bilal.
Raising pro-freedom slogans, the protesters tried to march but were stopped near Muran chowk resulting in clashes.
