Baramulla: Seven people, a woman doctor among them, and several forces were injured during a clash between government forces and local people in Palhalan area of Baramulla district.
Eyewitness said army and police cordoned off Tantraypora area in Palhalan after zuhr prayers and started a search operation. But local residents, mostly youths, assembled near Masjid Baba Latif and resisted the search operation that was probably aimed at apprehending Hurriyat activists and those suspected of stone throwing.
In the ensuing clash, the people threw stones at the forces who fired tear gas canisters, pellets and also fired empty rounds in air, injuring six people. Several forces were also injured and taken to hospital.
A woman doctor, Quratul Ain, suffered injuries when the hospital vehicle she was travelling came under attack of stone throwers, who probably mistook the blue-coloured bus for a CRPF vehicle as the latter too are blue-coloured.
Pattan police have arrested a youth soon after the incident, sources said.
One of the injured, Amir Ahmad, was shifted to sub-district hospital Pattan for treatment.
The forces suspended their search operation after the clashes. The residents accused the forces of damaging properties.
