Srinagar: National Conference has paid tributes to its former general secretary Advocate Sheikh Nazir Ahmed on his second death anniversary.
Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah highlighted the veteran leader’s contribution to the party and termed him as a statesman who stood in defence of his principles till his last breath. A party statement said that a Fateha Khwani will be held on Friday at Sheikh Nazir’s graveyard at Soura at 9 am followed by a party function at NC Headquarters at Nawa-e-Subha Complex at 10 am.
“Sheikh Nazir was a courageous son of the soil who served the people and his party without any self-seeking ambitions. He never aspired for a position of power in the government, nor did he advance any personal goals. He always maintained a close rapport with the party workers and remained accessible to them even when his health was in shambles. Nazir Sahab stood by his principles till his last breath and never compromised on his ideology and views” Farooq Abdullah said in his message.
Paying tribute to the leader, Omar Abdullah said Nazir’s demise created a vacuum “not only within National Conference but also in the State’s polity”.
“Nazir Sahab’s honesty and steadfastness continues to inspire the rank and file of the party and we will all carry forward his legacy and struggle by serving our people,” Omar Abdullah said in his message.
