Landslides keep highway closed: Snowfall in Gulmarg, rains elsewhere

SRINAGAR: Most parts of Kashmir received light rains on Tuesday while the tourist resort Gulmarg witnessed fresh snowfall along with rain. The Metrological Department also predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall for next 24 hours fairly widespread in both upper and plain regions of Kashmir.
“We are expecting light to moderate rains and snowfall fairly widespread in the both upper and plain regions for next 24 hours as the western disturbances are still affecting the weather,” said Metrological department officials.
From 8.30 am to 5.30pm on Tuesday, officials said, Srinagar recorded 1.2mm of rain, while as the tourist resort of Gulmarg recorded 8.4mm rainfall along with three inches of snow, Pahalgam received 3.6mm rainfall, Kupwara 4.5mm, Banihal 6.8mm, Kokernag 3.1mm and Qazigund 5.2mm.
The Srinagar Jammu highway remained closed on Tuesday and only the stranded vehicles were allowed to pass.
